Biologische activiteit

Beschrijving Verapamil HCl is een L-type calciumkanaalblokker en is een klasse IV anti-aritmisch middel. Verapamil remt zowel permeabiliteit-glycoproteïne (P-gp) als CYP3A4.

De enzymhydrolaseactiviteit van recombinant CES2 wordt substantieel geremd door diltiazem en verapamil (Ki = 0.25 ± 0.02 en 3.84 ± 0.99μM, respectievelijk).
In vivo

Verapamil heeft een anti-aritmisch effect via calciuminstroomremming, remming van zuurstofverbruik en gepaard gaand met behoud van Cx43-eiwit in het hart van ratten.
