Biologische activiteit

Beschrijving	PMA (Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate), een krachtige activator van PKC, is actief bij nanomolaire concentraties. Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) induceert sphingosine-1-fosfaat (S1P). PMA heeft een sterke exciteerbaarheid op de huid en het slijmvlies. Speciale bescherming is vereist bij het gebruik van PMA. Draag handschoenen en een masker om direct contact op welke manier dan ook te vermijden.
In vitro	In endotheelcellen verhoogt PMA (Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate) de niveaus van Thy-1 mRNA en eiwit, induceert het Thy-1 opregulatie en remt het de vorming van capillairachtige buizen en endotheelcelmigratie.
In vivo	In het zebravissenmodel verbetert PMA (Phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate) initieel de endotheelcelmigratie, waarna het de PKC-δ/Syk/NF-κB-gemedieerde route activeert om Thy-1 op te reguleren, wat op zijn beurt de endotheelcelmigratie remt.
