Biologische activiteit

Beschrijving Leupeptin Hemisulfate is een reversibele remmer van serine- en cysteine proteases. Het remt Cathepsin B (Ki = 6 nM), calpaïne (Ki = 10 nM), trypsine (Ki = 35 nM), plasmine (Ki = 3,4 μM) en kallikreïne (Ki = 19 μM), en heeft geen effect tegen chymotrypsine, elastase, renine of pepsine.

Leupeptin, geproduceerd door verschillende soorten actinomyceten, remt sterk proteolyse.

Leupeptin hemisulfate beschermt tubuline tegen endogene proteolytische activiteiten tijdens de isolatieprocedure en resulteert in verhoogde tubulinezuiverheid.

Leupeptin hemisulfate zou tot 50% van de expressie van hepatitis B-oppervlakteantigeen (HBsAg) in celculturen kunnen herstellen.
