Beschrijving Ciprofloxacin (Bay o 9867,Bay q 3939) is een fluorchinolon antibioticum, met een brede en potente antibacteriële activiteit, met een MIC90 van 0,024-6 μM.

In vitro

Ciprofloxacin is een fluorochinolon-antibioticum, met een MIC90 (minimale remmende concentraties voor 90%) tussen 0,008 en 2 μg/ml voor Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, streptokokken, Staphylococcus aureus en Bacteroidesfragilis stammen. Deze verbinding remt Topoisomerase IV als primair topoisomerase-doelwit en gyrase als secundair doelwit. Het toont een AUC (oppervlakte onder de curve) van 24 μg×h/ml
