In L6 myotubes verhoogt ZLN005 de expressie van het PGC-1α-gen en downstream genen door activering van AMP-geactiveerd proteïnekinase, en verbetert het de glucoseopname en vetzuuroxidatie zonder duidelijke cytotoxiciteit. Hoewel deze verbinding niet dezelfde effecten heeft in primaire rattenhepatocyten, wat wijst op celtype-specificiteit.

In vivo

ZLN005 (15 mg/kg, p.o.) produceert antihyperglykemische en antihyperlipidemische effecten en verhoogt de insulinegevoeligheid in db/db-muizen, maar niet in magere muizen.
